Prologue

"Say, will you stay with me? Forever?" A very young and childish voice echoed into the nothingness that served as surroundings. Everything was engulfed in darkness, but the two persons standing right in the middle of it did not seem to mind. Instead, they stared at each other, although in this pitch blackness, it was a wonder how they could even see the one in front of them. The voice had come from the smaller of the two, a young boy whose hands were clasped together behind his back. His feet, on what seemed to be the ground, were moving from their heels to their toes, making his body gently swing from back and forth as he looked up the other being in this nothingness, waiting for a reply. The boy was both nervous and eager. He was oh so scared that the answer he would receive would be a negative one, scared that the other one would flee right this instant. But he was still eager to hear, because he was confident at the same time. He trusted that person, trusted it with all his heart.

The silence accompanied the darkness for a while, something both uncomfortable and peaceful. A nice contradiction in itself. But that was because both feelings came from different people; one was calm, waiting patiently, not pressing the other. The boy could see that the latter was nervous, trying to find words, voice refusing to speak up. The smaller easily imagined what was going through the taller's mind. What could he say? What
should he say? This was... embarrassing, to say the least. The boy watched him look away in pure embarrassment, not daring to stare into his eyes – even if it was a wonder how he could do it in this darkness. But as he took another glimpse of the boy, said boy gave him a huge smile that he seemed to see, and which calmed him slightly. The man heaved a sigh. He should calm down, it wasn't like him to get this nervous, far from it. He was usually so composed. The boy wasn't pressing the matter and, even if he was scared of a negative answer, would never hold it against the other. So there was nothing to be nervous about. However... he never truly let the man stay calm, did he?

Finally getting a grip on himself, the taller of the two found his voice back. The smaller saw in his eyes that he wanted to be firm with this, show how serious he was. Feet firmly planted on the darkness, he nodded curtly. "Yes, I will." Turning his head completely to now face the boy, the latter's serene and longing expression transformed into one of pure happiness. That gave the taller a very serene look on his features and pushed him in deep thoughts of something that the boy could not figure out, this time. No matter. "Really?" He called out in a suddenly excited voice, making the other snap out from any thoughts he seemed to have at the moment, watching the giddy boy looking at him expectantly, height having grown an inch because of the fact that he was now standing on his toes. The man sighed a second time, a flicker of annoyance now in his eyes. He didn't want to repeat himself, but the boy needed it. However, that flicker soon disappeared and the boy's hand was taken in the man's as the latter kissed it softly, in an impulse. "Really." The taller assured and leaned down a bit so that their faces could be close to each other, only inches away. He realised however what exactly he was on the verge of doing and almost pulled back immediately, but two little hands caught his face in time, cupping it, and steadying it so that the boy's could easily reach up. Suddenly, lips were pressed together in the gentlest, sweetest way both had known. It lasted for a little while, both not moving another inch, letting this sweetness engulf them. And then, very slowly, both barely pulled away, just enough so that they could stare into each other's eyes. "I'm so glad. So glad." The boy's excited and blissful voice echoed before he wrapped his arms around the other's neck, holding on to him like dear life. "Don't ever go away, don't ever leave me. I'll do the same. Because I lo – "

Even if they were in the most pure darkness, even if it was surrounding them, making it hard to judge where they were exactly and what on, the ground suddenly started to shake, cutting the boy short in his words. Almost collapsing as he lost his balance, he tightened his hold on the man's neck, fear starting to build up in his heart. He had a bad feeling about all of this and the only thing he could think of was never letting go.

Suddenly, the solidness under his feet dissipated and he realised with horror that where there was supposed to be a ground was slowly disappearing, leaving him right above a hole. Fear struck him deeper, mostly when he felt his hold on the other loosen. "N-no!" He gasped, trying to cling onto the other as his feet were now dangling on the emptiness below him. But as much as he tried to hang on, pulling himself each time he slightly fell, his hands always seemed to slid on the fabric and skin that he tried to grasp. "D-don't let go." The boy begged as he felt himself fall faster. The man tried to catch him, keep him up, but both their efforts were in vain. Soon, only their hands were in contact, but skin was sliding against skin, fingertips touched fingertips and then, everything was gone. The other person disappeared in the darkness as the boy fell into the hole that had created itself below him. He screamed loudly as his whole body was struck by fright and horror at the thought of what would happen to him. He couldn't tell in this darkness, couldn't tell if he would fall forever or if he would land somewhere. But even if he did, he would die. No one could survive such a fall, he would die. But he didn't want to die! Not when he was so happy, not when they'd finally... His brain furiously functioned, trying to find a solution to all of this, but he could find none, not when he hadn't had the slightest clue about where he was.

And then, as his fear had predicted, his back collided with something solid below, his head hitting it next. Forced to release the breath he'd been holding, the boy prepared a yell of pain. However, never did he let it go as he realised that he was feeling no pain at all. His body was all right, he could feel everything working, there was nothing fractured at all. Taken aback by the fact, he wondered for a moment if he had died the instant his body had touched the ground, but soon, his thoughts wandered back to the other who had been with him just previously. His body shot in a sitting position as he frantically searched around, wondering if the man had fallen as well, not a single part of his mind focused on his miraculous way out. He had to find him. What if he hadn't been this lucky and was hurt? " – ? – !" The boy called out as he got to his feet, already running around to see if he could find him. Worry crept inside his heart as the thought of something happening to the other, which made him search harder, calling out to him in a louder voice.

In his running, he stumbled over something soft and fell to the ground. As his hands landed before his head did, he felt a sticky liquid under them, liquid that smelled exactly like iron. His heart tightened at the recognition and slowly, he looked back, hoping to not see what he feared. However, his hopes let him down completely. There, right beside his feet, stood the other's body, a pool of blood under him. The boy's eyes widened in horror and he switched his body's position so that he could face him. " – !" He called out a second time, his voice cracking because of his throat squeezing, tears welling up in his eyes. He couldn't believe what was happening before his eyes. It was simply impossible! "No! D-don't die!" He hurriedly pleaded, hoping for some sort of miracle that would make the blood stop. "Y-you promised me! We're supposed to stay together!" The boy's voice was merely a low whisper as he was unable to speak louder. Not when the sight shocked him like this.

The other on the ground simply offered him a weak smile and opened his mouth to speak, but more crimson trickled inside, preventing him from voicing any words he was about to say. So instead, he lifted a very weak and trembling arm in order for his bloody hand to reach the boy's cheek. Slowly, gently, he wiped the tears away in some sort of message, but it never stopped them. On the contrary, it made them fall harder, faster. "Please. You can't die." The pained and strained voice begged, cracking a second time as he sobbed. The only reply he got, however, was a mere apologetic smile. It was accompanied by a gaze full of unprecedented love that the other offered to the boy, hoping to show how much he loved him. However, it soon started to dissipate. He opened his mouth once more, as if he truly needed to tell something.

"I l... I lied"

His gaze became void and empty of life and emotions. The hand that had lingered on his young love's cheek became cold before it fell to the ground in a somewhat slow motion. At this, the boy hiccupped in dreadfulness, the tears stopping on themselves from the shock of what had happened and what he had heard. "N-no... No. NO!" He cried, slamming his fists on the ground, lowering his head, hiding it from the darkness. This was impossible! He couldn't have meant that. He couldn't have said those as his final words! He couldn't have
died!!

"How could you?!"
Finally! Finally :iconredrose-melody: and I are starting to write our beloved character's story! Even though they are six years old already, it took time for us to finally get a decent plot. But we did! And now, we finally decided to write it down and share it with everyone! I'm so glad~!

This is the prologue of Smile for me the story of Raphael and Betheel in Raphael's point of view. Redrose will do the same, however in Betheel's point of view. So you'll be able to read each side, get to know each character so much better than if it had been written only by one of us and both point of views had been mixed.

By the way, let's make something clear now : Betheel is pronounced Be-theh-el. There are accents in French to make the pronounciation easier, but in English, it's hard to decipher, so I'd rather tell it now so that it won't confuse people and so that they won't think it sounds off.

By the way, both Redrose and I are French (if you hadn't guessed by now xD) so of course, there might be mistakes. We'll doublecheck each other, but we don't have any beta. So if anyone wants to be ours, just note me, we'll be eternally grateful to you X3

I'll add a link to Help me smile (The story in Betheel's point of view) when Redrose puts it on her deviantart.

Also, chapter one will be on soon as well, I'm just waiting for Redrose's approval XD
